End of year update on Gawcott Fields Community Solar’s community impact and performance.
...read moreBuckingham Golf Club has joined the ranks of local sports clubs embracing solar energy, thanks to £25,000 from Gawcott Fields Community Solar’s Bee Green Grant Fund.
Following Buckingham Town Cricket Club and Buckingham Rugby Union Football Club, who both installed solar arrays on their clubhouses last summer, Buckingham Golf Club is now generating clean energy from the sun. The new solar PV installation is set to reduce the club’s carbon footprint, but also promises substantial savings of £4,400 per year on electricity bills! Fifty percent of these savings will be directed towards a youth development fund, aiding local young people from low-income households to access golf.
Chris Hanks, the Club Manager said: “The grant from Gawcott Fields Community Solar was key to the club being able to afford our Solar PV system. They helped us through the whole process. Aside from the obvious savings, it really has started our conversation around sustainability amongst our members. We’ve already had members asking about the savings and considering looking at home installation.”
As part of our partnership, Gawcott Solar will receive the export revenue from any excess electricity generated by the golf club’s solar array. This revenue will be reinvested into other low-carbon projects, supporting more local groups in adopting energy efficient practises!
This funding is available as part of our Bee Green Grant Fund, which is open to local, community-led, environmentally-focused projects. Community Groups within 5km of the solar farm can apply. To learn more about our funding initiatives and how you can get involved, visit our funding page.
