...read moreThis academic year, Gawcott Fields Community Solar committed £10,000 to educational outreach to maximise the solar farm’s potential as a learning resource for the local community. This spring, the solar farm hosted a series of educational activities in collaboration with Earth Energy Education for primary school students from Buckingham, Grenville, Roundwood, and Lace Hill Primary Schools.
In late April, over 100 children visited the solar farm, where they learned about renewable energy, climate change, electricity, and solar technology. On a tour of the solar farm students had the chance to explore our biodiversity and conservation efforts, even spotting a deer or two along the way!
“They face south because thatʼs where the sun is.” Year 5 pupil, Roundwood Primary School
Following the on-site activities, Sarah from Earth Energy Education led workshops at the schools focusing on Solar Panel Investigations. These hands-on sessions allowed students to dive deeper into climate change and the science behind solar to understand how it works to generate clean energy from sunlight.
Feedback from teachers highlighted the success of the program: “I’d like to express our thanks for an amazing two days of activities at Gawcott Fields Community Solar Farm. Sarah was wonderful and the children enjoyed every moment. The activities, delivery and organisation were possibly the best I have experienced from an outside provider.”
