Buckingham FC: The fourth local sports club to go solar
Gawcott Fields Community Solar CIC is proud to announce yet another successful partnership with a local sports club, furthering our mission to reduce the community’s carbon footprint. Buckingham Football Club has installed solar panels on their clubhouse, with Gawcott Solar covering 75% of the installation costs.
Buckingham FC is expected to save approximately £1,250 annually in electricity bills, with 25% of these savings will be allocated to a hardship fund for young players.
Adam Bray, Vice-Chairman, expressed gratitude, stating, “Thank you to Gawcott Fields Community Solar for the generous 75% Grant Award towards the installation of Solar PV and Battery Storage at Buckingham Football Club.”
He elaborated, “The installation has already been thought provoking amongst our members and committee while we are seeing immediate savings on our electricity demand from the grid. The installation is an essential part of the clubs ongoing aim to become as sustainable and self-sufficient as reasonably possible, reducing our Carbon Footprint in the process. Grant bodies such as Gawcott Fields Community Solar help to make these targets a reality.”
Our ability to support this project is made possible by the surplus income generated by our 4.17-megawatt solar farm, located between Gawcott and Buckingham. Governed by local volunteer directors, the solar farm operates for the benefit of the local community.
In return for the funding, Gawcott Solar will receive revenue from the sale of surplus solar generation to the local electricity network. This income will be reinvested in our next exciting low-carbon project! This marks the fourth local sports club that Gawcott Solar has supported in funding carbon reduction measures.
A big thanks to The Oakpark Group for their expertise in installing these systems. We look forward to seeing the tangible benefits this solar project brings to Buckingham FC and the broader community.
